HOW TO STAY INFORMED ABOUT FITNESS AND NUTRITION - MY WAY

As a fitness trainer and nutritionist, it’s a must to stay informed all the time. What you get from a fitness school it’s just a base. The rest is a constant self-learning process. New research on fitness/health/diet is published every day. Some of them contain really valuable information that sometimes can completely change your perspective. I am very keen to learn and develop my skills, become more knowledgeable, know the answer to any possible question, fitness, nutrition, or health-related (and anything else in general).

How do I keep myself informed and up-to-date?

✅1. I read sports or nutrition Ph.D. thesis on different subjects (the most recent I read was ‘Competing Under Pressure: State Anxiety, Sports Performance, and Assessment’). This type of works goes a lot into detail and makes you have a more comprehensive understanding of a specific subject rather than giving you a brief summary with three paragraphs that most probably would omit certain relevant details.

✅2. I read books published by dieticians or sports experts in different fields (at the moment I’m reading ‘Seven Weeks to 100 Push-ups’). Books are my best friends. I have stated many times already that I love reading and it’s been my passion since I was a kid.

✅3. I am subscribed to reputable fitness magazines and websites. I want to keep myself updated on the latest trends and to the most recent discoveries so that I can implement them in my routine and also to be able to assist better my clients on their fitness journey.

✅4. I follow fitness specialists on YouTube or Instagram. When it comes to details, it’s a lot you can learn from fitness coaches or dieticians. They can answer questions you might have had for a long time. I remember what a joy it was for me when I discovered a science-based video from Jeff Nippard in which he was showing studies about the efficiency of partial reps versus full reps. I have been curious about that for ages.

✅5. When in doubt, I ask around other experienced fitness trainers I know. Asking for help doesn’t make you in any way less competent. It actually shows that you are willing to learn and to improve. That you care. That you are really dedicated. Nobody knows the answer to every question. And when it comes to sports and nutrition, there are so many nuances out there, so many factors that must be taken into account. Getting a second opinion is the best thing you can do. Two minds will always come up with a better solution than one.

✅6. I attend fitness-related events and conferences. It’s a good chance to connect with other people in the industry. But it’s also an opportunity to learn from the best. Exchanging information is a fully enriching experience that I personally enjoy to the maximum. I am not shy about asking questions and I STay open-minded when other might have an approach that might not be my first choice. You need to question yourself in order to grow and improve and be ready to admit that you method is not always the best.
